3 million years ago, Bali called Island of the Gods, went out from the sea. It is central in the 14000 islands in Indonesia. The dry season lasts roughly from April to October and the rainy season from November to April. The Balinese have their own language, however, the Indonesian is also commonly used. Bali is one of the smallest islands of this archipelago, which is the largest in the world. It enjoys a geographic diversity thanks to its volcanoes and mountains. Totaling 3142 meters, Mount Agung is the highest point of the island. Many rice terraces draw sumptuous landscapes. The coasts offer beautiful beaches with white or black (volcanic) sand . Depending on the areas and the periods of the year, it is possible to bathe in peace or else to enjoy good conditions for surfing. Many dive sites with rich seabed fish and corals can be enjoyed. Indonesia is a democratic republic ; its motto is “unity in diversity”. This great country has a splendid religious pluralism with a Muslim majority ; Bali is a Hindu enclave. It is admirable to see how the people have maintained their customs and maintain the richness of their cultural practices which are part of their daily gestures.
